Tutorials

Mambo has always intrigued me because it is just os easy to install and operate. But I have not yet done anything more than do a few installs and templates. I left the hard work of developing Mambo components up to those that knew how. Now suddenly my interest in Mambo was lost when I looked up components in the documentation. It was empty and the items found had information that did not match what I found in the downloaded files. Disgusted I turned to learning Drupal module development. Though finding information at Drupal.org was hard there was still piles of it to read and train on. Drupal documentation seemed to be popping up like fall mushrooms in a forest while Mambo documentation was like that dead stinking carcase you find in the forest.

Now it is a year later and the Mambo developer documentation has not moved and Joomla documentation is vaporware at best. Luckily for us all there is an enterprising soul named Battra at Devbay that has a talent for making the hard seem easy. Battras Mambo Component Tutorial is clean, straight forward and well written. It even has some extras that you will not find at the Mambo project site. The best thing about this tutorial a what makes it stand out over others is the visualsand attention to details.

I am going to try and get Battra to let me add this tutorial to the Mambo Manual chm for offline reading or at the very learst redistribut a PDF of it. It would be a shame to see something this good disappear for lack of interest.

... its hard to find but its there. The Mambo team say they are in the process of changing their websites and improving navigation between them. Might be easier to find things when that happens.

Theres a useful blank component download here: http://mambo-manual.org/display/dev/Hello+World+component+for+developers
